Is Opus Magnum good for winter?

Its tobacco, incense, amber, oud, and balsamic notes make Opus Magnum well-suited to cooler weather. Community reviewers frequently mention autumn and winter wear, particularly because the fragrance has a dense, smoky and warm character.

What does Opus Magnum by French Avenue smell like?

Opus Magnum has a dark, smoky and spicy character. Incense, cardamom, basil and bergamot open the fragrance, followed by tobacco, fenugreek and lavender. Amber, Peru balsam, oud and tonka bean create a warm, resinous dry-down.

Frequently Asked Questions

Collapsible content

What is the difference between Eau de Parfum and Extrait de Parfum?

The difference is the concentration of fragrance oils. Extrait de Parfum typically contains around 20–40% fragrance oils, making it richer, deeper, and longer lasting. Eau de Parfum usually contains 15–20% fragrance oils and offers a balanced scent with noticeable projection and good longevity.

How do I choose a fragrance that suits me?

Choosing the right fragrance depends on your personal preferences, lifestyle, and the occasion. Fresh and citrus scents are often ideal for daytime and warm weather, while woody, spicy, or oud fragrances are better suited for evenings or colder seasons. Sampling fragrances and wearing them on your skin is the best way to find a scent that matches your personality.

How can I make my fragrance last longer?

To make your fragrance last longer, apply it to moisturised skin and focus on pulse points such as the wrists, neck, and behind the ears. Fragrances tend to last longer on hydrated skin, and storing your perfume in a cool, dark place also helps maintain its quality.

Are your fragrances authentic?

Yes, all our fragrances are 100% authentic and sourced from trusted manufacturers and suppliers. We only offer genuine products to ensure the highest quality and the true scent experience intended by the perfumer.

How should I apply perfume?

Hold the bottle about 10–15 cm away from your skin and spray lightly on pulse points such as the wrists, neck, or behind the ears. Avoid rubbing the fragrance after application, as this can alter the scent’s natural development. Reapply as desired and allow the scent to evolve naturally with you throughout the day.

How many sprays of perfume should I use?

Most fragrances perform best with around 4–6 sprays for a balanced scent and noticeable presence. Stronger concentrations such as Extrait de Parfum may require fewer sprays, while lighter fragrances may benefit from slightly more depending on your preference.

How long does perfume usually last?

The longevity of a fragrance depends on its concentration and ingredients. Eau de Parfum typically lasts 4–8 hours, while more concentrated fragrances like Extrait de Parfum can last 8–12 hours or longer.

Where should I store my perfume?

Perfume should be stored in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat. Keeping the bottle in its original box or a drawer helps preserve the fragrance and maintain its quality for longer.

Are your fragrances suitable for both men and women?

Many modern fragrances are unisex, meaning they can be worn by anyone. The choice depends on your personal taste and the type of scent notes you enjoy, such as woody, floral, spicy, or fresh.

Can fragrance smell different on different people?

Yes. A fragrance can smell slightly different on each person because of skin chemistry, body temperature, and skin type. This is why testing a fragrance on your skin is the best way to see how it develops over time.

Give it time to develop!

First spray smelled like licorice and celeriac and it's very strong. Now it's had a chance to sit it sort of reminds me of Tobacolor but incensy and quite heavy.
It takes around 45 minutes to develop and when it does its rich and deep and has a note of charred tobacco. Not ashy but like a pipe if you let it go out then knock off the ash before you relight. Has a good plum note giving it backbone and some nice woody notes.
It works best for me if I apply, then reapply a couple of hours later, then give it 45 minutes and go out. This builds up a good layer of oils on your skin and makes it last longer. It's not quite Royal Tobacco but if you layer it on some decent Oud Malay it gets pretty close. I just really hope that they bring out a version of OPUS XIII Silver Oud because that is my absolute favourite Amouage!
Oh, and I beg you don't make it a freshie, it will ruin it!
